OMNISAP® – Omnia Nutriology®

Omnia Nutriology®

A member of the Omnia Group

OMNISAP®

For the last 30 years, Omnia is seen as world leaders in plant sap analysis. Plant sap analysis is like a blood test for plants, and gives valuable information about nutrient levels, uptake ability and crop health and vitality. This enables early detection of deficiencies or imbalances, enabling producers to make timeous corrections to maximize yield and reduce risk through-out the season.

Plant sap analysis is a real-time in-season measurement of the uptake and availability of nutrients for the plant to use for growth. An OmniSap® analysis can detect deficiencies three to six weeks earlier than conventional dry tissue analysis, and even before visual deficiency symptoms appear and yield loss ensues.

Nutrient uptake is governed by many external factors such as irrigation, soil structure and environmental conditions to name a few. With its new Pattern Identification Software, an OmniSap® analysis can be used to identify underlying physiological limitations. More than 20 different conditions can be identified and corrected, including soil compaction, root development problems, herbicide damage and over- or under-irrigation, to name a few.

Therefore OmniSap® is the missing link between soil analysis and conventional tissue analysis and an invaluable tool for crop management during the season. Norms are available for most crops and for all growth stages, enabling continuous monitoring throughout the crop’s growth cycle.

Another new addition is the monitoring of crop energy or sugar levels by means of pH and Brix measurements in the sap. This is of particular importance in permanent crops where carbohydrate stress causes alternating yields and poor fruit quality. By monitoring carbohydrate levels through-out the season, timeous corrections can be made to sustain high sugar levels and stabilize yields from season to season.

Omnia`s state-of-the-art laboratory, Chemtech, is the only analytical lab worldwide with ISO17025 accreditation for sap analysis. Omnia offers the OmniSap® service in South Africa, Australia, Namibia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique.

OmniSap® also promotes environmental stewardship by optimising Nutrient Use Efficiency and Water Use Efficiency, thereby reducing risk for the producer as well as the environment.

ADVANTAGES FOR THE FARMER

  • Plant sap analysis is like a blood test for plants, giving valuable insight into nutrient levels, uptake ability and crop health and vitality.
  • OmniSap ® offers real-time in-season measurement of the uptake and availability of nutrients for the plant to use for growth.
  • An OmniSap® analysis can detect deficiencies three to six weeks earlier than conventional dry tissue analysis, and even before visual deficiency symptoms appear and yield loss ensues.
  • Omnia`s Pattern Identification Software coupled to OmniSap analysis enables identification of underlying physiological limitations such as root development, soil compaction , over or under-irrigation to name just a few. Nutrient interactions and mode of actions of each nutrient is also highlighted in the software.
  • Crop energy levels can also be monitored using OmniSap®. For permanent crops, OmniSap® enables carbohydrate (sugars and starch) monitoring through the season, coupled to the physiological energy drivers which include sap pH , Mg, P, K, S , Zn and B. This enables the management of alternative bearing by optimising crop energy levels.
  • Omnia`s state of the art laboratory, Chemtech, is the only analytical lab worldwide with ISO17025 accreditationspecifically for sap analysis. Omnia offers the OmniSap® analytical service in South Africa, as well as in Australia, Namibia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique.
  • OmniSap® also promotes environmental stewardship (NUE) , by optimising Nutrient Use Efficiency (NUE) and Water Use Efficiency (WUE) , thereby reducing risk for the producer as well as the environment.
